Basic Training

Before taking a horse for advanced training an assessment must be scheduled to determine the horse's level and aptitude. (See Assessment)

A full disclosure of prior training and relevant medical events need to be provided by the owner.

Teaching your horse to:

Accept the saddle, the rider and the bridle.
Learning to move and halt under the saddle in the walk, trot and canter
Learning to turn properly both directions
Precisely perform circles of various sizes
Learning the basics of moving laterally
Once this has been successfully achieved and the horse is not overly sensitive to its surroundings, he shall go on trail rides prior to arena work
Conditioning work will start progressively as to avoid soreness as much as possible. As the condition improves the conditioning will intensify.
I will adapt the schooling to the horse's pace for the best results.
If the horse shows exceptional temperament and aptitude, I will include more advanced exercises free of charge during the same period
On completion of the basic training, the owner or rider is required to take 10 sessions for a seamless transition. Allow 2 hours scheduling time Fee : $85 per session.
- This will include arena work as well as trail rides.

The owner or rider is welcome to watch the training at any time. Just call to make sure your horse has not yet been ridden that day.

Horse care products (blankets, coolers, shampoo/conditioners, special equipment, liniments, bandages, halter/lead line, fly spray)

The training course:

Conditioning and strengthening as to develop and or reinforce the top line.
- Conditioning work will start progressively as avoid soreness as much as possible.
- As the condition improves the conditioning will intensify.
The schooling pace shall be adapted for optimal result with retention of willingness.
Introduction or review of lateral work.
- Leg yielding, Shoulder in, Haunches in, half pass, in both directions
Introduction or review on collection.
Combinations of lateral exercises in succession to promote balance, straightness, stability and self-carriage at the walk and trot.
Perform collected exercises in walk, trot and canter in both direction including circles of various sizes.
Introduction or review of lateral work in the collected canter.
Introduction or review of lead changes (for tempis see Upper Level Dressage Training)
If the horse shows exceptional temperament and aptitude, more advanced exercises shall be introduced free of charge during the same period
Provided the horse travels well, besides going to adjacent trail rides, the horse shall go to Lagoon Valley Park few times a months for extra strengthening/conditioning.
